My elsa cake turned out perfect for my daughter. The instructions were easy and I read a few reviews here too for tips. I am excited to try it again for a volcano cake for my son :)This made the perfect bottom to my doll cake!I bought this cake pan because my three-year-old daughter wanted a princess cake for her birthday. I'm not much of a baker so this pan was a little intimidating. However, after reading the reviews, I decided to give it a try. It was wonderful and very easy. Far easier than I was expecting it to be.My daughter is blonde so I ended up buying an additional doll topper but other than that, everything from the kit was perfect. Before making the party cake, I tested it out. I followed the directions and everything worked well. But, the cake was a bit small so the next time, I added a little bit more batter than the directions say and it was perfect. Another reviewer suggested using two different types of cake batter to get a nice marbled effect. I tried that and it was amazing. I got so many compliments on the cake and had several people who asked if I had a professional make it for me. Given that I'm not much of a baker, that was a huge compliment.I was a bit intimidated by frosting it but I found a website where a lady suggested frosting it with a buttercream (I made a basic one), letting it sit until it just starts to harden and then take a paper towel that has an impressed pattern on it. Gently lay the paper towel on top of the frosting and rub it until the pattern appears on the frosting. Then, put a little bit of decorative frosting around the edges of the skirt. It worked and it made the most beautiful skirt that looked like lace. It was amazing. The only negative I have about this kit is that the doll toppers are pretty much good for one use. The hair is very flimsy and doesn't stay in the head very well. Anything you do that touches the hair causes it to fall out. I put it up in a basic pony tail and by the end of the party, most of the hair was gone. The same thing happened to the other topper (the brunette one that came with the kit) when I washed it after using it for my test cake. I did my best to keep the water out of the hair but given that you have to "dress" the topper with frosting, the hair has to be moved in order to wash it and quite a bit of it fell out. Pretty disappointing but the toppers are easy to find and easy to replace. The other benefit of this cake pan is that it can be used for other things. It's obviously designed for a a princess cake but I have also made an Easter egg and a football cake using it. I simply filled the center with frosting instead of putting the doll topper in it. One of my sons wants a volcano cake and this shape will be perfect for it. I thought I would be spending a lot of money on a cake pan that I would only use one time but given the shape, it can be used to make many different things so I am definitely getting a return on my investment.I highly and emphatically recommend this cake pan and kit. It is very easy to use. Easy enough that a non-baker can make really exceptional cakes with no problems.I baked according to the directions, did the toothpick step to look for any sticking, and took out to cool. The next day when I cut it open to put in the Barbie, the middle of the cake was raw! I had to rebake my cake… cooked for an additional 10-15 minutes. Cake turned out great… although could have probably used a little more time in the oven. Cake was easy to remove from pan and easy to clean. I added an extra 8 inch round cake for the bottom. Overall, I was happy with this mold and will definitely use it again!Perfect little pan! Last time I made a doll cake I had to carve the dress shape from layered circled cakes. It was a giant pain.? Save yourself a headache and use this pan. I used a box cake and baked it according to the pans bake time. I put it onto a sheet pan which made it easy to transport. Turned out great! I also used a small round pan to add an extra layer to the bottom of the cake. It added height which I did need.I used this to make a dino egg for my daughters smash cake pics. Made two and put them together. Nested them into a 9” round brownie for stability and covered that with chocolate icing to look like a nest. Took a day and a half to make (wanted cakes to chill overnight so they’d be easier to frost with icing). Cakes took 70 minutes at 350 degrees for me. Cakes were very very dense. Took 2 boxes of cake mix per cake. Sprayed the pans with cooking spray and had zero issues with them sticking. Pan was super easy to clean. So for anyone wondering, yes this pan is perfect for making an egg shaped cake. This was my first time using this… it was easy to assemble and use. I plan to make many more!!I taught my 10 year old granddaughter to make an adorable doll cake using this pan. We both love itMy daughter requested a Cinderella birthday cake this year so I bought a 12-inch Disney doll which had a removable skirt and this tin so I could create a cake skirt. I used the recipe that Wilton suggest on their website for this tin (pretty standard eight egg mix) but I had to cook it for a loooong time (two hours) on a low heat (160C) to get it cooked in the middle, but it produced a nice even bake. It was, however, not tall enough to accommodate the legs of the doll on its own so I had to then bake two eight inch rounds to stand the skirt shape on (worth knowing if you intend to use a doll). The cake removed from this pan easily with just a greasing of butter prior to baking - I didn’t need to line it with paper. This tins shape would also make a really good volcano!Fabulous product and worked brilliantly first time. I think the cake mix took longer to cook than expected, but it was evenly cooked throughout. The tin came with instructions, different decorating ideas and a dolls head and body. Personally I thought the head was ugly but it would be great to use practice decorating as it is not as easy as it looks in videos on YouTube!?Purchased this to make a princess cake for my daughters 3rd birthday. It came out perfectly first time! The only tip I can give is don’t put too much of the bake ease in to grease the mould as it collected at the bottom making the top of the cake a bit oily! Highly recommend to anyone wanting to make one of these!I find Wilton pans to be expensive as they don't exactly feel heavy duty or like you get a lot for your money. That said though I find them incredibly useful. I have used this pan and the soccer ball pan together so far to make a pregnant belly cake (complete with Mini Wonder boobs!) for a friend and a ladybird (Mini Wonder = the head) for my daughter. It washes easily too (use Wilton cake release for non-stick cakes!) and I suspect I'll be using it for many years to come.
